ヤエヤママドボタルの防除に向けた研究開発その１：夜間調査 / Research and development for the control of Alien Firefly, Pyrocoelia atripennis, Part 01: Nighttime surveys

Ryukyu Nature Positive（琉球ネイチャーポジティブ）では、外来種ヤエヤママドボタルPyrocoelia atripennisの防除技術の独自研究開発を進めています。このホタルが活動するのは暗くなってからなので、最近は夜間調査に出ることが多くなっています。ライトを消して幼虫が放つ光を頼りにホタルを探しますが、オキナワスジボタルCurtos okinawanusなど在来種も混在するため、ヘッドランプで照らして目視確認してカウントします。天候条件などにより同じ地点でも目視確認数は大きく増減することがわかり、防除処理の効果測定には、まずは出現数の増減パターンに影響する要因を把握することが必要です。

Ryukyu Nature Positive is conducting research and development on control techniques for the alien firefly Pyrocoelia atripennis. For this purpose, we have recently been conducting nighttime surveys. We turn off the lumps and search for the glows emitted by firefly larvae. Since native fireflies such as Curtos okinawanus also exist, visual confirmation is necessary to count the number of the target larvae. The number of visible larvae varies depending on weather? conditions, even at the same point, so figuring out the factors changing the activity of the larvae is essential to measure the effectiveness of control measures.
