ヤエヤママドボタルの防除に向けた第一歩：うるま市で地域とともに進める外来種対策/ First Step Toward Controlling an Invasive Alien Firefly Pyrocoelia atripennis - Collaborating with the local community in Uruma

沖縄島で急速に拡がりつつある国内外来種（八重山地域原産）「ヤエヤママドボタル Pyrocoelia atripennis」。
その生態系への影響を抑えるため、その防除が喫緊の課題となっています。私たちRyukyu Nature Positive（琉球ネイチャーポジティブ）も、独自にその防除技術の研究開発に着手しています。
今回の研究開発は、近所であるうるま市内を調査地に選びました。
そんなわけで、この課題に対する地域との共同の第一歩として、ヤエヤママドボタルの防除試験地となる天願地区のみなさまに、(株)沖縄環境経済研究所主催の講演会でホタルの話をする機会をいただきました。
クイズ形式での進行にしたのですが、子どもたちの盛り上がりがすごくて良かったです。
問題が進むにつれて、どんどん舞台側へ迫ってくる子どもたち (^^)
発言も質問も活発でとても嬉しかったです。

The invasive alien firefly species Pyrocoelia atripennis, native in Yaeyama, is rapidly spreading across Okinawa Island.
To mitigate its impact on Island biodiversity, controlling this species has become an urgent priority.
We, the Ryukyu Nature Positive, have started conducting our research and development on control technologies.
This time, we selected Tengan area in Uruma City, which is nearby, as the survey site for the research field.
As the first step of community collaboration on this issue, we had an opportunity to give a lecture on fireflies at a seminar hosted by Okinawa Kankyo Keizai Kenkyujo, Inc., for the residents of the Tengan area.
I made this event in a quiz format, and kids got excited about it.
Kids kept coming closer to the stage as the questions were asked one by one (^^)
I appreciated their active participation and questions.
A local newspaper, the Okinawa Times, also introduced this event.
