民間主導でメリケントキンソウ防除を / Private-Sectors Led Control of Alien Plant Soliva sessilis

まずは観察。子どもたちは興味津々。First, observation. The children are fascinated.

外来種防除においては、早期発見早期防除が鉄則。

そうは言いつつ、次々と見つかる外来種すべてに行政が対応するのは厳しいのが現実です。

企業さんやそこを使う地元の人たちが力を合わせれば、持続可能な監視や防除ができるのでは？

そんな好例になるかも知れないイベントが実施され、Ryukyu Nature Positive（琉球ネイチャーポジティブ）が講師として参加しました。

今回の対象は、メリケントキンソウ Soliva sessilis。

靴裏などに小さく鋭いトゲを持つ種子がくっついて、分布を広げる外来植物です。

ここ沖縄島でも年々広がっていると思われます。

このトゲが鋭く刺さるので、子どもたちやワンコが怪我をする危険があり、広場をサッカーグラウンドとして利用する少年団にとっても困った存在。

ならば、そのサッカー少年団とともに、グラウンドを守るために防除をしよう！というわけです。

株式会社ピータイム（p-time）さんのエコ活ハッチー隊（CSR）活動が主催。

雨もなんとか避けられて、みんなで防除できました。

抜き取ったものは、うるま市さんが引き取って処理。

バラバラだと、それぞれが「困ったねぇ。。。」で終わる課題も、うまくつながれば解決が見える。

新たな可能性を感じる企画です。

When it comes to controlling invasive species, early detection and early control are the golden rules.

That said, the reality is that it is difficult for the public service to respond to every single invasive species that is discovered one after another.

If companies and the local people who use those areas join forces, could not we achieve sustainable monitoring and control?

An event that could serve as a prime example of a model was held, and the Ryukyu Nature Positive participated as an instructor.

The target this time was an alien plant Soliva sessilis.

This alien plant spreads by attaching small, sharp-spined seeds to the soles of shoes and other surfaces.

It has been established and has been spreading year by year here on Okinawa Island as well.

Because the spines on its seeds are sharp and can easily pierce the skin, there is a risk of injury to children and dogs, making it a nuisance for the youth soccer team that uses the field as a soccer pitch.

So, the idea was: Let’s work together with that youth soccer team to control the plant and protect the field!

We could pass the rain and carry out the removal together.

The removed plants were collected and disposed of by Uruma City.

When we are separated, each one might end with a sigh of “This is a problem…,” but when they’re connected effectively, a solution becomes visible.

This project lets us feel new possibilities.
